This oak aged Imperial IPA is brewed out of Milton DE at the Dogfish Head brewery. This beer is now available year-round and has a hefty 10% ABV.
The beer pours out a nice dark orange color with a thick white head that has a good retention, and laces nicely on the glass. I found there to be some grapefruit, lemon, and orange peel in the aroma as well as a nice oak aged barrel tone. There is also some caramel, and bready malt tones as well so as you can see there is a lot going on with this one. The taste of this beer starts off with the bread, and caramel malt that was found in the aroma. I also found there to be a nice balance of the fruit in the middle before a slightly mild bitterness that I believe is mellowed out a bit by the aging in the oak barrels. The finish also contains a nice warmth in the belly from the ABV.
Overall this is an excellent beer and I would suggest you pick it up if you are lucky enough to have it distributed near you. I drove three hours with my wife to Savoy IL to get my four pack.
