Old Speckled Hen

Old Speckled Hen

This beer is brewed by the Moreland Brewery located in England. It is available year-round and it has a 5.2% ABV. This beer was brewed to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the MG car factory and was named after an old car used as a factory runaround called “The Owld Speckledun” per the bottle.

This English Styled Ale is pours a amber color into the glass with hardly any head that doesn’t retain or lace on the glass. The aroma was very skunky and I couldn’t hardly make out any other tones. Maybe some earthy hops, and caramel malts but if they were there they were overshadowed by the skunk. The taste wasn’t much better in my opinion as this beer just seemed to be flat. It had a malty front of toffee, and caramel that carried itself to a bitter harsh finish.

I had higher expectations for this beer and was let down. Maybe it is due to the clear bottle, but even if it was fresh I don’t think I would ever reach for another one.
