Red Hook ESB

Red Hook ESB

Red Hook ESB is brewed out of Portsmouth NH at the Redhook Brewery. It is available year-round and it has a 5.8% ABV.

I found this Extra Special Bitter beer to pour out a nice copper color, with a medium amount of white head that left a small amount of lace on the glass. The aroma is sweet with hints of caramel, and toffee malt, and a touch of floral hops. When tasting this beer I found it to have more of a sweet malty taste with a hint of bitter hops. What I was expecting was the opposite hence the style of the beer. It does finish crisp with just a hint of bitterness, and it also has a pretty nice balance to go with it’s medium body.

Overall this isn’t a bad beer, I would say slightly above average at best. I was expecting more bitterness from the hops and that really is my only complaint. Give it a shot if you like.

Cheers!
